Hypnotherapy for Anxiety relief.

It’s perfectly normal for us to having feelings of anxiety from time to time, sometimes described as a sensation of butterflies. However some people find themselves having intense and persistent worries about everyday circumstances. It’s common for a person with an anxiety disorder, to often experience momentary surges of intense feelings of apprehension or suspense that reach a peak within minutes, known as a panic attack.

For some, feelings of anxiety can be difficult to manage and interfere with daily activities. Perhaps giving rise to avoiding certain situations or places that seem to trigger a panic attack. Anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental health problems, estimated to effect one in ten people.

What causes Anxiety?

When the subconscious mind perceives a threat in our surroundings it triggers the ‘fight or flight’ response. This gives us a short burst of adrenaline intended to give us energy to deal with the threat. Our distant ancestors would have experienced this as cavemen. For example, if under attack by a predator. That feeling of fear or dread would be useful to get out of harms way, and once safe the mind and body would return to a relaxed state.

However, the subconscious mind isn’t logical, and doesn’t work in the same way as our conscious rational mind. Nor does the subconscious recognise the passing of time, it doesn’t distinguish between past, present and future. For example a person, bitten by a dog as a small child, may find themselves having a panic attack whenever they walk past a dog. On a conscious level they know it’s extremely rare for a dog to attack and that as an adult they are better equipped and aware to avoid such a thing. However the subconscious mind is 90% of our mind power, and in order to protect from from the perceived threat, triggers the fight or flight response.

How Hypnotherapy can bring relief.

We can access the long term memory in the subconscious mind in hypnosis. Thereby finding the cause for the symptom of anxiety, typically a circumstance when the feeling was first experienced. This is done in a non-invasive way, whilst my client is experiencing a state of relaxation. Once the root cause for triggering the flight or flight response has been uncovered, I work to address it. The subconscious mind is accessed directly in hypnosis, and can be updated to put the mind at rest. Reassuring the client that the initial danger has passed, and instilling better coping skills.

I work with clients to visualize a situation which once caused them stress or anxiety, whilst focusing on feeling relaxed. This forms a new association between the situation and feeling calm and at ease. This is a powerful technique. Especially when combined with resolving the past belief of needing to remain vigilant for danger which has already passed.

I work with clients locally in Victoria BC Canada, and also online via private and secure chat room. Book a free consultation to find out how I can help you break free from anxiety, or contact me for further advice.
